SOROPTIMIST ORIENTATION - December

Sandra Baumann, Soroptimist Orientation Chair Southern Region

Dedicated to Dorothy Quick who loved to share her  Soroptimist wisdom with us.S.O.L.T.
As most of you are aware, I have been going through a rough patch with my health. I am home from the hospital with a brand new defibrillator and pacemaker. Like the energizer bunny I should be good for a few more miles and I look forward to seeing all of you in Puerto Rico.

While in hospital I was given something I would like to share.

The universe yet incomplete

on the sixth day God created her

WOMAN

and God said to her

I shall give to you

A HEART full of compassion

a SPIRIT free to fly with the birds

a VESSEL to carry life into the world

WISDOM to know great truths

COURAGE to rise out of oppression

STRENGTH to move mountains

GENTLENESS to kiss the earth

PASSION to set the world on fire

VISION to respect the earth that bore you

a PLAYFUL NATURE to dance with the children

LAUGHTER to fill the valleys

TEARS to wash the  pain away

HANDS for laboring and loving

INTUITION to know the unknown

DESIRE to be that which you were created to be

and GOD said to her

WOMAN

I have created you in my image and likeness and

YOU ARE GOOD

Soroptimists around the world are doing wonderful things.

From New Zealand comes a group raising funds to buy prosthetic limbs for farmers in Thailand (cost US $50 each).

From Germany a group raising money for mothers in Mongolia to stay with their children in hospital. These hill people with no money can not afford to take their children to a hospital because they have to stay and nurse them.

In Jakarta they have rebuilt a village destroyed in the Tsunami. These stories are just a few from the chatline, they are not asking for money only sharing their experiences. Joining the chatline is an opening into the world of Soroptimist. It costs nothing and you don't need to participate only read, we call that being a lurker.

the latest news is a club being chartered in Timbuktu.

Enjoy the new year in health and peace.
