HOW YOU CAN HELP SOROPTIMIST GENERATE SYNERGY Sandra Baumann, Soroptimist Orientation Chair, Southern Region Synergy is a wonderous thing. It's defined this way: (prounounced SIN-ur-gee, meaning "working together"). The combined working together of two or more parts of a system so that the combined effect is greater than the sum of efforts if the parts. In other words, when two or more entities work together cooperatively, the combination of their individual efforts results in more than the mere sum of those efforts! It sounds like magic - and in a way, it is! In Soroptimist, one of the synergistic entities is its "muscle": its volunteers. One volunteer group is Soroptimist officers and boards of directors who contribute extensive amounts of time, energy, and money to both sustaining and improving our organization. And what is Soroptimist's other synergistic entity? It's "lifeblood": YOU, its members. When muscle is nourished by its lifeblood, work can be accomplished that neither muscle or lifeblood alone could have achieved. We appreciate the ways you nourish Soroptimist, with everything from your membership to monetary contributions above and beyond membership fees . Your active involvement in Soroptimist is truly vital to our progress in achieving our mission. And right now, Soroptimist can use your help to generate even greater synergy around our two most immediate initiatives. How you can help. New members - bring a prospective member to your next meeting. Work cooperatively together, Soroptimist volunteer "muscle" and its membership "lifeblood" can generate significant synergy around our major initiative . With that synergy, we have the potential to advance global understanding , and with that impact, we can make our world a better place to live. |

Dear Southern Region Board Members
and Club Presidents;
Soroptimist’s new “Living Their
Dreams” brochure recently
received the 18th Annual APEX
Awards for Publication
Excellence in the marketing and
public relations category. The
award is based on excellence in
graphic design, editorial
content and the success of the
entry in achieving overall
communications effectiveness and
excellence. The APEX is an
annual competition for writers,
editors, publications staff, and
business and nonprofit
communicators.
The “Living Their Dreams”
brochure (as well as the newly
designed Women’s Opportunity
Awards brochure) also received
the 2006 Communicator Awards’
Award of Distinction. The
Communicator Awards is an
international awards competition
that recognizes outstanding work
in the communication field, and
the Award of Distinction is
awarded for projects that exceed
industry standards in design or
communication skills.
In addition, the “Living Their
Dreams” brochure has received
high praise from other
individuals, including the staff
of Vital Voices and former First
Lady Barbara Bush. The brochure
has been extremely popular with
members since its initial
printing in September 2005. To
date, approximately 45,000
English brochures and 10,000
Japanese brochures are in
circulation.
