As we sat around the Thanksgiving table discussing what we are thankful
for, I talked about Soroptimist and what it means to me. A chance to give a scholarship grant to a deserving woman (WOA), a chance to give an award to a teenage girl who has learned about volunteering. A chance to honor a woman in our area for outstanding work in the community for women. It has also meant worldwide friendships thru the chat line and wonderful friendships in our club. district and region. Meeting people of like minds who are committed to helping women. What a wonderful thing we have and what a shame that too many of our members don't take advantage of everything it has to offer. Age and physical abilities don't count when you do the part you can do. They say "many hands make light work" and it is true, just do what you can and the job will get done. Invite one friend or acquaintance to each meeting and help grow your club. Ask for help for your programs. It may amaze you that your elderly neighbor would be delighted to read to children at a battered women's shelter or help collect clothing bank or thrift shop that benefits women. Along those thoughts think of your relatives who might help out. At this time of year, with holiday party's you will be seeing loads of people so your circle of prospects will grow. HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL. Sandra Baumann, Soroptimist Orientation Chair, Southern Region |
